Love God

As a new missionary (more than 9 months ago), my trainer taught me that each night we as companions were to give each other 3 compliments: "I love you today because..." Each compliment had to be a sincere one, felt from the heart.  Each night I looked forward not only for the opportunity to remind my companion that I love her, but I would also receive a boost to my own self-esteem.

Last night, we did our "I love you's" before I began my prayer, and so as I knelt down I was still in the mood:
"Heavenly Father, I love you today because..."

I had to stop myself and think, "why do I love thee today?  Is it just for all of the stuff thou hast given me?"
I then realized that each night I compliment my companion it has NOTHING to do with what she had given me.  Rather, it was what her strengths were, what she was innately good at.

And so I started a quest.  Why do I love God? Is it just because of the miracles and blessings I see in my life?

Here is the list I have come up with so far:
  • He is omnipotent. He can be with me to comfort me in Florida and still comfort my family in Utah. He knows each of our worries and cares and each of our pleasures.
  • His love is infinite. He doesn't ever stop loving, even when we, His children, do some really bad things.
  • I love Him for his "work and [His] glory: to bring to pass the immortality and eternal life of man."
  • Nothing is too small or too big for Him.
  • He is perfectly just and perfectly merciful.
  • He is UNCHANGING.

Why do you love God?

  1. Sister Eddington I love this so much!
I love God because he has given me so many people to love and to care about. Because He sends me tender mercies every day, although they may be little like someone that waves back as we are driving. I love him because he is aware of my needs and wants.
