This week I was blessed to study in Genesis about Adam and Eve and their family. I reviewed the story of Enoch and his city, and of Noah.
In Genesis 5 the Old Testament reviews the "generations" of the family of Adam and while at first this seemed to me pointless, I think there is a lesson to be learned.
Adam's story of sacrifice was first. He did not totally understand why he was asked to make animal sacrifices, but he did it anyway. He loved God and so was obedient to Him.
Cain did not make the sufficient sacrifice, while his brother Abel did. It was because Cain was picking and choosing how to be obedient that he was not blessed, in fact cursed.
Enoch was hated, but he did as the Lord commanded and built a Zion that was taken to heaven.
Noah "did according unto all that the Lord commanded him" (Genesis 7:5). He was asked to do some hard things, prophesy, build and ark, gather all the creatures on the earth, etc. And while this seems like so much the Lord then promises Noah: "
Each of these stories showed examples of obedience, and as each was obedient they were blessed. However, none of the stories were of simple situations, rather they required incredible sacrifice.
These promises are there for us too! As we are obedient to the commandments of the Lord, to ALL that He asks us whether or not we understand it, we will be brought closer to Him, we will be guided to build a home that protects our family and ourselves from the floods of the world. I know this is true!
